The Ethical Life, with Rabbi Pitkowsky

This fall/winter, Rabbi Pitkowsky is very excited to share with you a new curriculum created by The Jewish Theological Seminary of America (JTS).  This curriculum, entitled The Ethical Life, is a wonderful platform to explore modern ethical dilemmas using ancient Jewish texts and the latest technologies.  This class will feature short video lectures by JTS faculty members and other expert scholars, text study and group discussion.   The class is split up into twelve individual units, and participants are welcome to attend all twelve sessions, or they can choose to attend certain sessions based on the topic for the evening.

Some of the topics covered include: Introduction to Jewish Ethics, Ethical dimensions of food production, fracking, Mass Incarceration, modern day slavery, ethics of torture and just war, end-of-life care, disabilities and the ethics of inclusion, surrogacy and the ethics of relationships, ethics of physical enhancement, ethics of lying (is it ever ethical to not tell the truth).

Dates/times for the class:
8:15pm to 9:30pm (following evening minyan) on the following dates:
December 6, 13, 20
January 3, 10, 24, 31
February 7, 28
March 7, 14, 21

Cost of the class: The class costs $20 per person, and includes a custom-made binder (courtesy of JTS) to hold materials, along with full access to all the digital materials on a special website created for the class participants.
