Politics and Poetics with Dr. Rachel Korazim

Sunday, September 11, 2016 8 Elul 5776

10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Following the ancient tradition of the biblical prophets, Israeli writers have taken upon themselves the role of whistle blowers. As they are part of the state coming into its own, they do not shy away from telling the public as well as the leadership off. They fearlessly address social injustice, war ethics and poverty. We will start with the early days of the state through Nathan Alterman’s The Seventh Column poems, all the way to contemporary Moise ben Harush and Eliraz Cohen addressing the ongoing Mizrachi – Ashkenazi dialogue and issues of settlements across the Green Line.

Join Dr. Rachel Korazim, our spring 2016 Rabbi Barry Schaeffer Scholar-in-Residence, for a conversation via Skype (from the Curtis Hereld Room).  We will be having 4 such sessions, all independent of each other, with the next 3 session dates still to be determined.

The cost is $5 per person.  Register by September 7, 2016
